To achieve my goal of becoming a super affiliate I mad a simple 8 step process that I plan to follow. I am currently on step 6-8 and hopefully others will find this a useful guide.
1. Web Basics First
If you are a total beginner the first thing you must do is learn some web languages. Sure the super affiliate wont need to know this but it will be extremely helpful when you are starting out! Believe me I spent 6 months learning different web technologies before I was introduced to affiliate marketing and my knowledge in this area is definitely something I do not regret.
What you should know:
- XHTML
- CSS
- PHP Basics
- Wordpress (Optional)
The following is a great place to learn the above: www.w3schools.com
2. Read - Knowledge is Power
Before you go blow your pay check in a PPC Engine it would be a good idea to learn some of the basics first. Besides reading affiliate marketing specific sites read a bit about marketing in general. Most of the fundamental offline marketing principles can be applied to affiliate marketing. My recent post about the push or pull strategies is a great example of this.
Good Forums to Read:
- www.AffiliateForum.com
Good Blogs to Read:
Other Spots To Read: The library! You can find lots of classic books on marketing at the library.
3. Stop Reading
No, don’t completely stop reading but seriously cut down on the hours you spend doing it. Honestly it is easy to get caught up on blogs and forums wasting hours of your day. Once you feel you have a strong understanding of the basics behind affiliate marketing try to limit your self to the amount of time you spend reading blogs and forums.
4. Learn a PPC engine
If you never used a PPC engine before pick ONE and start working with it. When I started I was trying to use the big three (AdCenter/AdWords/YahooSM) all at the same time and it was complete overload. I spent more time figuring out how each thing worked then actually working on my campaign. Passing on some advice from Paul of UberAffiliate I would recommend starting with yahoo. They have a great $100 coupon and their lower traffic then Google makes it a bit easier for beginners to learn.
5. Join affiliate networks
The following is a list of different networks you may want to join (let me know if I forgot any of the big ones):
6. Test
Now for some fun and hopefully time to make some cash! Pick an offer that looks promising from one of your affiliate networks and start testing it. Test everything! Landing page, ad, keywords, demographics ext… If you find a profitable campaign scale it, if you find a dud drop it and move to a new offer.
7. Network
With your newly acquired knowledge in affiliate marketing start networking a bit and make connections. Besides networking with other affiliates don’t forget to network with you affiliate managers! Forming a good relationship with them can mean help a lot. Another thing to remember when networking is not to give away to much information. Be careful what you say because people are money hungry and WILL pounce on the chance to make some cash if you give away to much info such as a converting landing page or top keywords.
Ways to network:
- Make a blog
- Comment on blogs
- Use forums
- Go to Events
8. Repeat
Repeat steps 6 and 8. Never stop doing these steps and stay persistent, never give up!

The following is a quick overview of how I got
After reading some of your posts, especially the facebook one, I started my first campaign. I started out with small money, but it is just to get the feel of what is going on. I at least hope to make my money back. I am not betting on making tons of profit right away, but to at least not lose money would be nice. Hopefully after a few campaigns I will get a feel of what to look for and what I can push. Then maybe I can be tossing out hundred to a thousand dollars, and bring back double
Thanks for the inspiration to move into affiliate marketing!
