A constant struggle for anyone who uses Facebook social ads is that for most niches the traffic just does not last! For example If I am marketing yoga mats there is only so many people with yoga in their interests that after a few days my CTR will start to go down until eventually I need to drop the campaign. What is the solution to this? How do we maintain profitability over a long period of time with Facebook?
I came up with a simple yet useful solution to this problem due to my unexpected success which caused cash flow problems during the second half of April. Instead of being able to spend $200+ a day advertising (as I was doing in the first half of the month) my budget is limited to only $50. To compromise I reduced my bids. Now instead of paying 24cent per click and spending $200 a day I’m paying about 16cents which allows me to just barely hit my $50 dollar budget. Although my total profit is lower my ROI increased significantly and since my ad is being served less each day my good CTR will last much longer allowing me to keep the add going for weeks. Now here is where the nice part comes in. I have tested a few new campaigns and I have found some that look promising. My current daily spend limit on Facebook is $350 so when I finally get my April checks I will be able to distribute that $350 budget over a few campaigns that get cheap clicks. Instead of bidding high and killing my campaign in one week and getting low profit margins, I can run a few campaigns at the same time bidding 15-20cents increasing my ROI and stretching out the life of the campaign.
Even if you only have one successful campaign going I still recommend lowering bids(most of the time) even though it will reduce your daily profit. Why? Well because this will allow you to run a campaign for 4 weeks at a 100% ROI instead of running a campaign for 2 weeks at a 50% ROI (just example numbers). So although your daily profits may be less the boost in ROI and the ability to keep the campaign going for a longer period of time will prove to be a more profitable approach.
